Chapter 7- Kensley
âTell me all about it!â Amber screams into the phone.
âThereâs not much to tell. We had dinner at a really good Bar-b-que place and then flew a kite in the Dunes.â
âHow romantic! Whatâs he like, Kens? I know you two didnât get off an the right foot.â
I smile as I walk around my small cottage. âHeâs really sweet. Complete opposite of dickhead. Amber, he apologized after kissing me.â
âHE WHAT?â
I nod knowing she canât see me. âYeah, we kissed while watching the sunset and then he apologized. He didnât want me to think anything bad.â
âOMG, Kensley! How sweet is he? So details. How was the kiss?â she asks as I pour myself a cup of coffee.
âThe man can kiss,â I answer back taking a sip from the mug.
âI wonder what else he can doâ¦â
âJesus, Amber. Well if the indication in his pants last night could talk, Iâd say heâs probably pretty good at that as well.â I take another sip of my coffee as I hear Amber choke on hers.
âWarn me next time, Kensley.â
âHey you asked.â We laugh and I continue to tell her about how the date went. âHey, you need to come down this month once I open. Please?â
âI already have my ticket booked, sis! I wouldnât miss the opening for anything.â
âYouâre sure you can take time off from the shop?â I ask hoping her impromptu vacation wouldnât set her back.
âI own the store, Kens. Itâs fine. Angelina will handle it while Iâm out.â
âYou should move here with me.â
âI know you want me to, but I canât leave yet. Plus, Iâm not sure if I want to move. Would you have moved if you didnât get the shop?â
âProbably not, but we all know things werenât going very well where I was anyway. Being fired from your job kinda does that.â
I hear her huff. âWell, you know my thoughts on that and honestly he was a douchebag.â
âI know but I miss that part of my life. I miss the desserts, the cupcakes, the cakes, I miss the world that I went into. Now all I have is candy and taffy.â
âVoodoo Taffy. Not just any taffy,â she laughs as I shake my head.
âYes, the infamous Voodoo Taffy, which is not going to be available unless I get my butt to the shop and figure out how to make the damn thing.â
âOnce you get that down, maybe you could think about adding an area on the store for your specialties. Maybe you can offer a treat of the week, or day. Cupcakes, mini tarts, you get the drift. Itâs your store now, Kens. Make it yours.â
âIâll see what happens. Maybe I could renovate the front to sell the taffy but also pull in a bakery option. I like that idea. Not sure how itâs going to work.â
âYouâll figure it out. I know you will. Now go be amazing!â
âThanks, Sis. I love you.â
âLove you too.â
I hang up with Amber and have a new sense of hope. Sheâs right. Although this started out as a taffy and candy shop, there was no one to say I couldnât add my own mark on it.
